Friends of the Earth-Ghana

Who we are and what we do

Friends of the Earth Ghana was founded in 1986 and joined the membership of Friends of the Earth
International (FoEI), the world’s largest grassroots environmental network uniting 76 autonomous
environmental organisations from all over the world. FoE-Ghana is a national non-governmental organisation
working in all the regions of Ghana.

Our mission:

To conserve and make sustainable use of the world’s natural resources to improve the economic and social well-being of present and future generations.

Our Vision:

That Ghana should become an ecologically, socially and economically sustainable society.

Our Objectives:

We aim to protect the earth against further degradation caused by human activities; to empower people through participatory sustainable livelihood strategies;

Our programmes

Programme on Gender

In Africa and many other parts of the world, women are denied equal access to and control over resources, land, credit, and income and access to services such as education and healthcare.

Programme on Forest and Biodiversity

Ghana is made up of tropical forests covering just over ten percent of the land area and mainly confined to the south-west and middle parts of the country.

Programme on Climate Change

The world is warming at a faster rate than expected, causing damage to critical species, habitats and ecosystems and disrupting food production systems.

Programme on Environmental Rights and Justice

Every one of us is inherently entitled to certain fundamental rights and freedoms as established in the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
